Stand-Up Marketing is the award-winning brainchild of Kerry Herbert. She worked in global books marketing for more than 15 years, getting to the head of her game before finding comedy and transferring those skills to the business of laughs.
The groundwork to this comedy marketing business was performance. Kerry gigged as a sardonic straight stand-up in Brighton and the South East. She was a Funny Women semi-finalist, a Laughing Horse quarter finalist, and in the esteemed Laugh Your Bits Off competition she came third behind Romesh Ranganathan and Sam Savage, which is the best third to be.
Kerry ran the most successful comedy fundraiser in Sussex, Charity Chuckle, raising over £20,000 for charities such as Amaze, Rise, and Comic Relief. The line-ups were the best in the business: Bridget Christie, Zoe Lyons, Katherine Ryan, Al Murray, Hannibal Buress, Romesh Ranganathan, Angela Barnes, Sara Pascoe, Rachel Parris, Luisa Omielan, Aisling Bea, James Acaster, Josh Widdicombe, Stewart Lee. After 8 years of sold-out monthly nights, it was put on hiatus in 2016 following a 5-star review and the ultimate quote: “comedy perfection”.
As an award-winning comedy booker, promoter and producer, Kerry was invited to East Sussex Women of the Year at the Amex Stadium. The car park is very steep. Her car had handbrake issues. Luncheon was announced with the clink of crystal, followed by, “Would the owner of the car… please make themselves known. It appears to have rolled down the hill and is now resting on two other Women of the Year’s cars.” No cars were injured in the networking process, but Kerry did come away with the card of the Police Commissioner and a High Sheriff.
She went full Alan Partridge with her own local radio show, Kerry on Comedy featuring interviews with comedians and promoters interspersed with tunes. Mick Perrin and John Shuttleworth are quite special.
When Kerry does Comic Relief she’ll know the worst places to stay. In a round the world tour she ran a fun-house in an Australian travelling fair, drove a Ute and rode a dolphin, and learnt to dive in land-locked Malawi, where in a strange twist of fate she had to employ gun-toting mercenaries to save a life.
Kerry has freelanced with top international live comedy promoter, Mick Perrin Worldwide, learning so much about international touring and loving every minute.
